This stage between two and three is so full of treasured memories, as a baby develops into a child growing in personality and developing communication. And even though some stages of development don't gather the same attention as with the first child, this particular stage is just as exciting the second time around.
It's been fascinating watching Aubrey develop her vocabulary, and its so different than it was with Elijah. She's much more deliberate with every syllable. So when Elijah (or "Neal" as he is called by his mother AND his sister) is annoying her, she'll find one of us and report, emphasizing each syllable, "Nea... Peh-Tuh... Me!" (Neal pester me).
Of course, she's doing the same thing to her younger sibling, pestering poor "Dosh-wah" by wiggling her fingers on his belly or feet and exclaiming in a super-high-pitch voice, "Tickle, tickle, tickle." It doesn't matter if he's awake or asleep, she consistently pokes and kisses him. She often runs over to the couch to sit down, then holds her little arms out and pleads to "hull Dosh-wah" (Hold Joshua). It's cute to see her delighted smile, even while he's screaming his head off.
She still pleads to look at "pi-tuhs" by moving her lips two millimeters from my eye. It's hard not comply and pull out the iPhone pictures everytime.
But nothing compares to the call of, "Da-yee" (Daddy). No sweeter sound in the world. Melts my heart everytime.
