The Comer Fair

Tonight we all went to the Madison County Fair here in Comer. It's strange going someplace right down the street. We're used to driving 30 minutes to go to the grocery store, much less an evening of cotton candy and cheesy roller coasters. What's really amazing, is that in the eight years we've been here, this is the first time we've gone to the fair.

Anyway, we had a good time watching Elijah ride all the rides and the family split a pretzel. We bought Elijah the hand stamp so he could ride as much as he wanted. We didn't ride anything, and Aubrey was too small. So all in all, we paid $26 for Elijah to have a fun night at the fair. He rode the dragon roller coaster, and tried each of the kid rides that just go around in a circle, nothing too exciting, except for the car one where it whips the kids around the corners. He like that. His favorite "ride" was the obstacle course that included a rope ladder, a bridge, and a long tube slide.

The best part for us was watching him find his way through the maze of mirrors. I'm sure we will win parent of the year for this, but we were cracking up as he continually smacked his head into the transparent walls. We kept hearing whack "ow" whack "ow." Of course, the little, tough guy persevered for quite some time. But eventually he did get discouraged, so I helped him out. The second time around, he wised up and walked around with his hands out in front of him, and then got through all his own.

We didn't get there until around 7, and stayed until close to 10, so once again we kept the kids up late. But we all had a great time.
